The Maroon 5 frontman and the Victoria's Secret model, who married in 2014, welcomed their first child in September, 2016 and had initially come up with a good name for their daughter but when he ran it past the talk show host, she told him it wasn't right and gave him a list of other options.

"I texted Ellen and I was like, 'What do you think?' he recalled on The Ellen Show on Thursday. "She was like, 'I hate it. I think it's a terrible name. I was like, 'Cool.' She gave me like five names to think about: This, this, this, this, Dusty. You basically named my kid."

Ellen replied, "I did name your kid!"

However his wife Behati wasn't sold on it straight away and didn't like it when he first pitched the idea but he brought it back up later, once they had run through other options with no success.

"I brought it back to her in the eleventh hour," he said. "I'm like 'Dusty's pretty cool!' She's like, 'I love it!'"

Not only did Ellen help with the first name, but her friend suggested they could add Rose to it so she text Adam the recommendation, which came to be their daughter's name.

"If anyone needs to name their child," The Voice U.S. mentor said, "Ellen's really good at it."

Adam, who wouldn't say what their first choice of name was, explains the pressure he felt to give his first kid a good name, likening it to having put a song title on the best track he's ever written.

"The name game is tough game. It's a very hard, arduous (game)," the 37-year-old said. "It's really screwed up to actually have to put yourself through that."

The couple introduced their fans to Dusty Rose days after the birth on Instagram by sharing a picture of the newborn resting on her father's bare tattooed chest.
