
The man who handed himself over to police in connection with the murder of Pretoria teenager, Anika Smit, appeared in the Pretoria North magistrate court again on Monday.

The parents of the accused, André van Wyk (24) -- who was known by his friends as “Smiley” -- Jan and Judie also attended the court proceedings. Judie sobbed quietly as her son sat in the dock.

His legal team have confirmed that they haven’t made a formal application for bail.
The State has asked that Andre be sent to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation. Although he needs to wait until a bed becomes available.

Magistrate Pierre Wessels has requested that André be held in a single cell in the hospital section of the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.
The case has been postponed until 25 October 2016.
