Andreas Johannes van Wyk will return to court on charges of murdering Anika Smit.
Andreas (24) handed himself over to police in Pretoria North on Saturday, six years after Anika's death. He claims he was involved in the teenager's murder and could no longer live with himself, according to reports.
In a cream-coloured suit, he made his first appearance in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court, having been in custody since Sunday.
He faces charges of murder, mutilation of a corpse and rape.
Andreas confirmed during his court appearance that he is Afrikaans speaking. He was tense in the dock, with his arms folded. He has a mustache and a goatee.
He will be able to apply for bail when a legal aid lawyer appointed for him. The case was postponed until 26 September.
Anika's body was found in her bedroom in 2010, after having been booked off school for an ear infection.
Her father, Johan Smit found her body.
At the time of her death, she was a grade 11 pupil at Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz.
