Now that she’s lost nearly 40 kg there are new delights for Leanne du Preez – such as being able to fit into an armchair.
When she tipped the scales at 191,5 kg this was something she could only dream of. Now the 22-year-old who used to feel imprisoned in her body has a new dream – finding a job to earn a living.
“I’ve lost 38,7 kg,” Leanne tells us excitedly by phone from Uitenhage.
Then her voice drops. “But I’ve had no good news about my job applications. I recently had another interview but it wasn’t successful.”
When her mom, Lorraine, called YOU last August and described Leanne’s battle with her weight she said people treated her badly. “They notice only her weight; they don’t want to give her a chance.”
But in spite of losing so much weight since YOU started Project Beat the Bulge with Leanne and other dieters (YOU, 15 September 2011) she’s still trying to find an employer who’ll give her a chance.
YOU’s Pieter van Zyl asked Dr Denise Björkman, vice president of the SA Council of Professional Coaches and Mentors, for advice for Leanne on how to prepare for her next job interview. We also look at how far our other dieters have come.
