The best friend of Christopher Panayiotou’s girlfriend gave a moving tribute to Jayde on 22 November – the day that would have been Jayde’s 31st birthday.

The message drew mixed emotions from most people following the Panayiotou murder case.

Most of them – including Jayde’s family – was shocked when Clarishka Kapp shared a photo of a white Christmas tree decorated with yellow ribbons on the group Justice for Jayde.

Since Jayde’s murder in March last year Jayde’s family and their supporters have worn yellow ribbons as a way of keeping Jayde close to their heart.

A few weeks ago Clarishka sat in the witness stand at the Port Elizabeth High Court to testify about Christopher’s affair with her best friend Chanele Coutts.

Alongside the photo Clarishka wrote: “In Honour of Jayde I decided to add yellow ribbons on my christmas tree... Keeping the family in my prayers.”

Most people’s reaction to the photo was pure shock; others wished Clarishka well for having moved on with her life.

Debbie Godfrey, Jayde’s friend and the administrator of the group, said she initially wanted to remove the post from the page, but Jayde’s sister, Toni Inggs, told her to leave it up.

“I think it must have taken a lot of courage for Clarishka to put the photo there for everyone to see,” said Debbie.

Clarishka earlier testified that she knew about Chanelle’s relationship with Christopher even before the couple got married. The court heard how Christopher bought expensive gifts for her and Chanelle and took them on weekends away.

People on the group asked if Clarishka was still in touch with Chanelle. She answered as follows: “To put on record, no contact has been made between the mistress and myself as a very hard lesson was learnt here. And it will continue to be so.”
