Blac Chyna's lawyer 'shocked' over Kardashians' trademark lawsuit

Blac Chyna's lawyer has been left "shocked" by Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian legal bid to block the reality star from trademarking the name "Angela Renee Kardashian".

Chyna, whose birth name is Angela Renee White, filed documents in May 2016, around a month after her engagement to Rob Kardashian, to trademark what will be her married name - Angela Renee Kardashian - in a bid to make money from the moniker for "entertainment services, television and movie appearances".

However, Rob's siblings are now trying to prevent her from profiting from the family name and have filed paperwork through their companies opposing her trademark application.

But speaking to People.com, Chyna's attorney Walter Mosley admitted they had been left blindsided by the move, especially considering his client, who has baby daughter Dream with Rob Kardashian, was getting on so well with the Kardashian family.

"Everything has been fantastic between her and the family to the best of my knowledge, so this is a shock," he said. "Thus, I’m under the belief that it’s a misunderstanding. I don’t know how this plays out any other way."

Until the situation is clarified, Mosley is going to "proceed as I normally would with a lawsuit" and therefore has 40 days to respond. In the Kardashians' paperwork, obtained by TMZ.com, they claim Chyna's trademarked name would cause them to "suffer damage including irreparable injury to their reputation and goodwill." They also add she is "deliberately seeking to profit from the goodwill and popularity" of the Kardashian name.

However, Mosley is confident the Kardashians don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to their case.

“The Kardashians, like Angela and my other clients are very protective of our marks, I think for us this is going to be a clear case win, because it’s actually her name, it’s not a poaching,” he said. “I would hope that this is just a junior lawyer’s error, who’s just responding to everything and not really looking at who it’s from or why it was filed. There’s a softer side of this where Angela has to have a conversation with her family."

Chyna began dating Rob in January, 2016 and they are reportedly planning to exchange vows in front of TV cameras next year.
