A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a two-year-old boy in Soweto on Sea, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape police said on Tuesday.
"On Sunday at noon a two-year-old boy was playing with other children at Songololo Street, Soweto on Sea, Port Elizabeth," said Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu.
"He [went] missing and [was] found dead by the owner of the house at Serote Street where he was dumped at about 3pm and is suspected to have been raped."
It was not clear whether the toddler had been strangled but the post-mortem would reveal the cause of death.
The 16-year-old was arrested on Monday, and was expected to appear in the Nerina House Juvenile Court later on Tuesday.
