Bunnies galore for sick boy

His story has touched people all over the world – a sick little boy has to have radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer and needs a special rabbit to keep him company.

Facebook and Twitter have been abuzz with people wanting to help because Nic Henshilwood (9) of Cape Town is facing a tough road ahead. And when YOU readers heard about his ordeal the search really gained momentum. Now Nic has received several rabbits – one all the way from Pretoria.

They’re a stand-in for Rabbit, as Nic calls the soft toy his aunt bought him at Woolworths 10 years ago before he was born.

Rabbit has been the boy’s best buddy since he was little and has comforted him in the past few weeks when he was at his sickest. But Rabbit can’t go with Nic when he starts radiotherapy this month because the intensive radiation means everything Nic takes with him, from his bed linen and pyjamas to his toys, must be destroyed after treatment. So how would he find comfort?
