Centenarian drinks in pub for 80 years

accreditation

A 100-year-old great-granddad has celebrated 80 years of drinking at the same pub.

Norman Rushworth has enjoyed more than 20 000 pints at the 700-year-old Golden Cross in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, West England, and has seen prices change from just 5p (also in SA) a pint to £3.80 (R53,20) for his usual alcoholic beverage.

He’s quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "It's improved immensely since I first started drinking here.

"A few of my friends and I used to call in at lunchtimes and weekends.

"We couldn't afford to come in every day. We used to sing songs and play games."

Norman saw in his 100th birthday last month by sitting in his usual seat at the bar.
