Charlize Theron makes her African voice heard

accreditation

She’s a beauty who’s portrayed a beast for which she snagged an Oscar, and she’s SA’s biggest Hollywood export. On this week’s CNN African Voices, Charlize Theron will talk about how she’s given back to South Africa through her activism.

When asked about her connection to South Africa, our home-grown international success emphasised her deep feelings towards the country of her birth, “I feel like I am made in this land, no matter where I live or travel. There is a connection so deep to my people and my country ? this country ? that will never go away.”

Her work in South Africa includes highlighting issues such as tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/Aids.

“This is a disease that has caused devastation. If you talk about anything that has been plausible 20 years ago, no one would have believed it. So we have come a long way because of all these tools that we have, but I think my passion with the Global Fund [to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria]has become increasingly stronger, because we are so incredibly close,” says Charlize on her work with the Global Fund on eradicating HIV infections in South Africa. The show will be aired on CNN African Voices (DStv channel 401) at the following times: Friday : 9.30 am

Saturday : 4.30 pm

Sunday : 10 am and 7.30 pm Monday : 11.30 am and  6.30 pm Tuesday : 6.30 am For additional information and video clips of the showFaiza Mallick
