Chris Brown's Loyal was jail hit with his jail guards

Chris Brown’s Loyal was apparently a huge hit with jail guards.

The 25-year-old singer was released from police custody on June 2 after spending 234 days in jail and rehab over the last year following a string of run-ins with the law. But he admits his music was somehow able to permeate his world behind bars, with guards even allowing the dance track to blast for all to hear. "[They were] playing it over the speakers when I was locked up,” he told MTV News. “You know how they’d call you like, ‘Brown you’ve got a visitor’ — they would play the music and I [thought]…this is funny.”

It wasn’t only a smash hit among Chris and his fellow prisoners. The star still remembers when his team called to tell him the track had topped music charts.

“I got a call from my management team [saying] Loyal is number one, and that’s the best feeling in the world, especially when you’re in a dark, terrible place,” he explained. “You just want somebody to say, ‘Aye man what’s up, you good?’ or just check on you, and you find out that your music is in every club and everybody’s vibing to it, there’s just no other comparison.”

Chris’ new album, X, is scheduled for US release Tuesday.

The star is looking forward to sharing more of his fresh music with fans. He hopes they will see how he’s grown as an artist since his eponymous debut album was released in 2005, and is humbled by the fact he’s held his own in the business for so long.

“I wanted it to be more of a celebration [of] the ten years I’ve been doing [this] and being blessed to be successful for this amount of time,” he said.
