Couple married for 62 years FINALLY reunited after being forced to live in separate nursing homes

accreditation

Wolfram Gottschalk (83) and his wife Anita (81) had been married for 62 years when tragedy struck.

Wolfram’s health deteriorated and his elderly wife couldn’t care for him anymore.

As if that wasn't traumatic enough -- after decades of living together the two were placed in separate old age homes, despite their family’s desperate attempts to keep them together.

According to reports there wasn’t enough space to house the couple from Surrey in the Canadian province of British Columbia together.

In the following four months, the family drove Anita the half hour journey it took to see Wolfram as often as they could. Each goodbye was heartbreaking.

Anita mourned the fact that she could never say goodnight to her husband, as she had been doing for all these years.

One of the granddaughters, Ashley Bartyik’s, biggest wish was to see them together again.

She described her grandma and grandpa as the pillars of their family.

During one of their visits she took a picture of the couple, which she calls the most heartrending photo she’d ever seen.

On the photo you can clearly see the tears running from their eyes when time came to say farewell.

It wasn’t long before the pair became an internet sensation around the world and eight months after their split Morgan Heights (Anita’s retirement home) said that they had place for Wolfram!

On Thursday 22 September 2016 Ashley posted the following to her Facebook page: “Thursday our family joyfully witnessed the reunification of Wolfram and Anita Gottschalk.”

She also mentioned the tears of joy which flowed at their reunion. “They can now be under the same roof for their remaining years, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Here is the touching moment that Anita welcomes Wolfram to his new home.
