Dave Grohl talks ‘tour self-destruction’

The 45-year-old Foo Fighters rocker, who became famous in the Nineties as part of his then-band Nirvana, was on the road with British indie group the Arctic Monkeys recently.

And although Dave thinks the Arctic Monkeys are “f**king awesome” in every way, he admits travelling with such a youthful band brought up memories of touring chaos.

“I think back when I was young in Nirvana and how difficult it is to navigate through that sh*t,” he explained to UK newspaper The Sun.

‘Please God, don’t let them self-destruct’

“I’ll see a young band like them become that popular and think, ‘Please God, don’t let them self-destruct’. Because it happens, you know.

“But they seem like a band of brothers. Those four dudes [Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O’Malley and Matt Helders] seem like they’re doing really well and will be for a while.”

Although Dave is a rock ‘n’ roll icon, he has been exposed to pop music more frequently recently through his five-year-old daughter Harper.

The songwriter respects his children’s attraction to mainstream songs.

“I look at music through her eyes now, and it’s Katy Perry who is opening her up to music,” Dave noted.

But this doesn’t mean he’ll be purchasing a One Direction CD for himself anytime soon.

“I don’t listen to their music, but they seem like nice guys,” he smiled. “I have a picture with Harry Styles hugging and kissing me.”
