Well, if a status the boys from LCNVL posted on their Facebook page is anything to go by, Sony Music seems to think so. And Andrew and Brian Chaplin are livid!
“Sony Int. tryin to claim we stole from Kelly Clarkson for Closer! First off, go f*** yourselves, second, listen to People Like Us by her and Closer by us and PLEASE tell me if you hear any similarity whatsoever! [sic]” they posted on their Facebook page.
This, in turn, has enraged some Facebook users – the use of a particular word, that is, not so much the issue itself.
“Firstly, there is an appropriate way to respond. Crude language like that is appauling! [sic]” commented one user. Another added, “Language, language. Sjoe.”
Still, the status unleashed a tirade of LCNVL love from fans, with some dubbing Sony “tone deaf” and others saying Kelly Clarkson is “just looking for publicity”.
Do you think the songs sound similar? Here is LCNVL’s Closer, which features Brian’s girlfriend, Lakota Silva:
