It was like a bolt from the blue that sent Gauteng residents reeling. In the past you paid a toll once a year when you went on holiday.

But suddenly the province’s motorists faced an etolling onslaught – they’d have to cough up when they drove to work, took their kids to school or went to the movies or out for a meal.
