'Every ounce of my passion is in it' - Ian Somerhalder supports female empowerment

Ian Somerhalder is urging fans to support female empowerment through his latest philanthropic effort.

The Vampire Diaries star is also a well-known activist, having started the Ian Somerhalder Foundation in 2010 to “positively impact the planet and its creatures”. And he was sharing details about his latest effort at the weekend on social media, revealing supporters could purchase technology accessories from a company called Chic Buds, which makes products “specifically for women”, after the founders named ISF the winner of their “Fave Foundation Award”. Twenty percent of sales on the company’s website will be donated to Ian’s foundation throughout the month of October, and supporters will also receive a special audio recording with a message from the actor.

“Check out ISF's collaboration with chicbuds [redacted],” Ian tweeted on Saturday, including a link to the company’s website. “Hope u listen to my passion audio recording. Every ounce of my passion is in it;).”

Ian consistently promotes ISF collaborations on social media.

The charity recently received funding to help save at-risk animals.

In a post on his Twitter account last month, the star admitted he was overwhelmed reading the series of success stories posted on the ISF website, revealing just how much good the money has done.

“Just looking @ these again-wow... @IS_Foundation Medical Emergency Grant success stories frickin rule,” he wrote, asking fans to follow the organisation’s account for updates.

Ian revealed last year saving animals and the environment are some of his biggest passions.

"I've already collected more than $6 million(R67 788 900) in donations to build a new animal shelter," he told German magazine Bravo.

“It's so important to mobilise people, because they are our future."
