What the 16-year-old didn’t know at the time was that the fashion world would find her and that she’d be making her international debut within a matter of weeks – and on the catwalk for internationally renowned Dolce & Gabbana, no less. “I got discovered by my agent Fanie Nel of FanJam on Instagram. He saw a picture of me in my school uniform and contacted me,” Ansolet wrote in an email to us from Milan.

Ansolet is in Grade 11 at C&N Meisieskool Oranje in Bloemfontein. Before long Fanie and his team at FanJam had Ansolet in the studio for her first photo shoot. She walked the catwalk this past Sunday in Milan for Dolce & Gabbana. She also appeared in shows for Tod’s and Francesco Scognamiglio, as well as appearing in the most recent edition of Marie Claire magazine. Fashion blogs are abuzz about this South African beauty. “Gorgeous girl! She really caught my eye at Dolce & Gabbana,” one gushes on Thefashionspot.com. Another one writes, “Astounding new South African.”

“The best part is definitely the traveling and meeting new people from all over the world. The worst is competition between the models and the pressure to be ‘perfect,” she writes in her email. She describes fellow South African model Candice Swanepoel is her role model in the business. Candice is a Victoria’s Secret Angel. “My highlight was meeting a Victoria's Secret Angel – Sara Sampaio,” Ansolet says. Ansolet as the “X factor” which lets some models stand out from the rest, say Fanie and James Emanuel, another of Ansolet’s managers. “[She’s] beautiful, yet unique and [has] striking features with a very well-proportioned body and amazing skin and hair.”

And what does Ansolet herself say about her new-found fame?

“The most important thing I learned from working in Milan is to always be yourself and stay true to yourself, it will make you stand out. Don't let negativity influence you.”
