My R500 moisturiser has been cast aside in favour of a R49,99 version. I’m still trying to process this. Buying the perfect moisturiser is hard work and after what felt like years of creeping through thick swamps, dragging myself over hot coals and crawling through a desert – on my face -- I finally thought I had it, even though I had to spend a small fortune. Or so I thought.
I got the chance to try Woolworths’ new Earth Friendly beauty range and figured I’d try the body wash and hand and nail cream. I initially decided not to try the facial moisturiser marked as “for normal skin”, something my overly sensitive skin, prone to oiliness, was decidedly not. But it promised moisture and I thought why the hell not as the top of my cheeks had somehow, for the first time in my life, become dry. And I was curious about it containing “inca inchi oil with papaya extract”.
I gave it a go the first evening and it’s thicker than my usual creams so doubt was still the overriding feeling but it wasn’t greasy, massaged in well and felt nice. It also has a lovely light scent, that “papaya extract”, and I liked the pump-action bottle.
The next morning I realised the dry patches were gone and my skin hadn’t revolted with an outbreak of acne and oiliness. I have used it for almost a week now and I love it, my skin feels lovely and though it should not be for my skin type it clearly works -- must be that mystery “inca inchi oil”.
I looked that up and it’s a vegetable oil from a plant that grows in the Amazon region in Peru. According to a few websites (and back of the bottle), it’s a good source of omega 3 and 6 and has loads of vitamins and other healthy stuffies. My purse is also pleased, though I will have to reassess in summer when I need a lighter cream.
I also tried the body wash with pomegranate and papaya (R32,99). It felt good and the scent is fresh and light enough not to interfere with my perfume. I wasn’t wild about the hand and nail cream (R32,99); it does moisturise with that magical inca inchi oil but it doesn’t absorb to my satisfaction and my hands felt slightly greasy.
The range also includes body butter (R44,99), hand washes (R32,99) of various types and a foaming face wash for R39,95 (150 ml) which I want to try.
