Harry through the years: from little prince to strapping soldier


The big 3-0! Happy birthday, Prince Harry! We couldn't let the special occasion pass by without a special tribute to our favourite flame-haired prince. We take a look back at the life of one of Britain's most popular -- and eligible -- royals.


Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales is born.

At school, Harry wasn't much of an academic. He was always a keen sportsman though, and was happiest on the polo field.

Harry returns to Lesotho to launch the Sentebale.

Sentebale is a word used by people in Lesotho to say goodbye, and literally means "forget me not" -- as much a reference to Diana as it is to the children the charity aims to help.


He begins training for the war in Iraq.

However, the army decides not to deploy him, believing it would make him an enemy target.


Harry and Chelsy split up.


The army confirms Harry was secretly deployed in Afghanistan for two weeks.

He begins training as a helicopter pilot.

He's awarded his Apache Flying Badge and promoted to captain.


Harry is best man at his brother's wedding to Kate Middleton.

He returns to the frontlines in Afghanistan and serves for 20 weeks.
