A support group claims 1 500 people are abducted by aliens each year.
Anomalous Mind Management Abductee Contactee Helpline (Ammach) ? which was established in 2011 to help people who’ve had contact with aliens ? claim to get up to five calls a week and 25 e-mails from people who’ve had a close encounter.
Joanne Summerscales ? who founded the support group alongside Miles Johnston ? said, "Many people experience ridicule, vilification [and] isolation besides what they're going through. We offer non-judgmental interviews and an opportunity to talk about it."
As well as offering a telephone support service, Ammach holds workshops, conferences and meetings to enable people to swop stories about how they met extraterrestrials.
