'He looks like he's sleeping': Tears flow as carwash crash victim and her son are laid to rest in the same grave

“Our hearts ache for the perfect looking baby boy who looks as though he is sleeping. We only wish that he could wake up.”

That was what Belinda Louw’s friend said today at the NG church in Wonderboom when she said farewell to the mother and her unborn baby boy, Ryan.

Belinda died in a freak accident at a petrol station in Gezina. A car washer lost control of a car and drove over Belinda, who was 36 weeks pregnant at the time. Her unborn baby died on the same day.

Belinda fought for her life at the Muelmed hospital for a week longer, but she also passed away on August 21st.

“To my skapie, words can’t describe how much I loved you. The legacy you leave behind will always stay with me. You motivated me,” said Corne Hitge, Belinda’s partner and the mother of her son during the ceremony.

“I will love you and Ryan until eternity. I hope we meet one another in the next life.”

Her emotional brother, Xander Louw, said he would have loved to meet baby Ryan. “When she sent me the first sonar photo of him on WhatsApp, I thought he’d be a little stoutgat, but we would have spoilt him rotten.”

Belinda and Ryan were buried in the same grave.

Corne opens up in the unthinkable tragedy in latest issue of YOU. Read it here.
