Heartbreaking moment sick cat 'holds his owner's hand' on his last trip to the vet

Andrew's "dad" knew the 15-year-old pet was getting old and sick, Reddit user Abernha3 shared. But when the happy feline suddenly stopped purring altogether, he resolved it was time for a trip to the vet. And, as it would be for any pet lover, that drive was gut-wrenching. But poor old Andrew seemed to know something was up -- and wanted to comfort his owners one last time. “He held our hands on his last trip to the vet. Little Andrew was much stronger than his mom and I,” he captioned a photo of the green-eyed, grey cat with his paw tucked between his "mom" and "dad's" clasped hands.

The Redditor drew hundreds of kind comments with the picture on the online forum.

"May he purr forever in your heart!" one commented, while another user added, "Picture shows what a sweetheart he was."

Others used the thread to tell heartbreaking tales of their own pet losses.

"I know this feeling all too well, my little Midnight was 16 when we put her down.

We noticed she couldn't even lift her neck over her bowls to eat/drink one day when she was just laying with her head on her bowl. So damn sad to see her go like that," one kykr422 shared.

"I put my one and only cat down a little over a week ago." Skogul1 said.  "Still can't think about it with tearing up, and her food dish is still in my kitchen :("

Andrew's owner thanked the over 200 commenters for their kind words.

"Little Andrew was my junior," he added. "He was 15 and a half and loved everyone, but just got old and sick over the last year.

"He purred everyday of his life and when he lost that, I knew it was time. Always sad to lose a friend.

Sorry for everybody else's losses as well."
