The House M.D. star has landed a role in US political TV comedy Veep.
The HBO comedy stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as the country’s vice-president-turned-Commander-in-Chief.
A source now tells E! News Hugh will appear in the upcoming fourth season, although details surrounding his role are being kept hush-hush.
The part would be Hugh’s first in a scripted small screen series since the 2012 series finale of House.
The actor starred as Dr. Gregory House for eight seasons, wining a pair of Golden Globes and scoring him six Emmy nominations.
The star has had no shortage of work, however.
He’s recently completed a voiceover role for adventure video game LittleBigPlanet 3, out in the US this month, and will appear next year in Brad Bird’s highly-anticipated sci-fi film Tomorrowland.
He’s also been working on his music, releasing a second record called Didn’t It Rain just last year.
The entertainer recently admitted singing inspires a different kind of persona altogether, and has joked he feels “like a Saudi Arabian playboy who’s been given the keys to a Ferrari he’s had no training in” when he performs.
He’s also been stunned by the success of his music career, which saw him becoming a Top 40 recording artist in 20 different countries worldwide.
"Is that what I did? I didn’t even know that,” he mused in an interview with British newspaper The Telegraph after the release.
“See, I didn’t know what releasing a record was like. I didn’t know what was supposed to happen.”
