‘I can drink up to 14 bottles a day’ – Gerard Depardieu

French actor Gerard Depardieu (65) recently said he drinks no fewer than 14 bottles of wine a day – despite a heart operation 14 years ago and a car accident he was involved in last year. It seems nothing can quench his thirst for alcohol.

The My Father the Hero actor said he can’t drink like a “normal” person and enjoys wine, beer, champagne, vodka and whiskey during the day.

He loves wine so much he manages a celebrated wine farm in Medoc, a province of France known for its wine estates.

“I like wine a lot. I can drink up to 12, 13, 14 bottles a day,” he said. “In the morning I start with red wine or champagne just before 10 am. After that it’s more champagne.”

'All I need to do is lie down for about 10 minutes then drink a little sweet wine'

Gerard said he sometimes interrupts his wine drinking to sample Pastis, a French aniseed-flavoured liqueur.

“Then I have something to eat with two bottles of wine. In the afternoon I drink more champagne, beer and Pastis until about 5 pm. Later I drink vodka and/or whiskey.”

He said despite the vast quantity of alcohol he consumes he never gets very drunk.

“All I need to do is lie down for about 10 minutes then drink a little sweet wine and – voila, I feel as fresh as a daisy.”

The actor is convinced he’s maintaining a good lifestyle.

“I’m not going to die soon – I still have too much energy!”
