'I thought I had food poisoning': British teen's surprise birth on bathroom floor

When she came home from work last Monday night, Gemma had to rush to the bathroom with what she thought was a nasty case of food poisoning. Instead, she found herself in labour.

'I did everything you're not supposed to do when you're pregnant'

"I made Sunday dinner the night before and was up all night with sickness and thought I had given myself food poisoning," Gemma told the UK's Mail Online.

Eventually, Gemma's boyfriend's mother, Katrina Degan, realised Gemma was giving birth. Katrina managed to deliver the child herself with the help of her daughter.

Little Orla Degan was born after two hours of labour, weighing 3,4 kg. Only then did mother and baby go to a nearby hospital, where they spent two nights under observation.

While Orla is healthy, Gemma says she did "everything she wasn't supposed to do" while pregnant, including a trip to a theme park and flying to visit her boyfriend Daniel, who works in Malta.

"I had no big bump, I was in a bikini on the beach in Malta a month ago."

Announcing the birth of her daughter on her Facebook page, Gemma wrote, "The best and most surprising case of food positioning in the world --Baby Orla Degan. Not the toilet trip i expected, thank you Eilidh and Katrina. Still in total shock but she's so perfect! So so in love xxx
