For Shashi Naidoo, the early hours of Sunday morning were among the worst of her life. A man broke into her home in Houghton, Johannesburg and tried to rape her.
'I started scratching him and pushing him off me'
“I went to bed at 8:30 pm and I woke up at 1 am with a guy choking me and ripping off my underwear,” a shaken Shashi told YOU.
Mercifully, the Tongue and Cheek presenter (33) managed to fight him off. “You go into fight mode. I started scratching him and pushing him off me. Eventually it got too difficult for him and he quit by letting me go."
She escaped from the bed and managed to get to the panic button. "But in that time he took two of my cellphones, my bag and iPad. He took whatever he could find,” she says. At the moment she’s in London hoping to try to clear her head of the horrifying incident.
“I’m fine now. I don’t want to talk about it too much.” Shashi says. “I’m still traumatised. Even when I’m driving I feel paranoid. I feel violated."
Despite travelling to London to process the horrifying incident, she doesn't feel bitter about South Africa. "I want to live here and make a difference in my country. It didn't change my mindset on SA,” she says.
Our thoughts are with Shashi during this incredibly difficult time.
