Idols’ Dave van Vuuren: soul of the party

When Idols finalist Dave van Vuuren steps on stage and starts to sing he looks as if he’s in a trance. “It’s my soul coming out,” the dark-haired singer says, tapping his chest with his right hand as we’ve seen him do so often on the Idols stage.

It’s no surprise to discover then that he didn’t like books or rugby while at school– music was already in his blood.

“When I’m on stage I forget completely about the audience and people around me,” the 21-year-old says when he chatted to YOU’s Danél Blaauw at the Idols house in Northcliff, Johannesburg.

Making the top 10 in M-Net’s Idols competition is more than a dream come true for him – he believes he was destined to make music. “Otherwise I’d die,” he says seriously. “Nothing else makes me happy.”

Now he’s one of the chosen few in the Idols house and, he hopes, on his way to great things.
