Injury-riddled Russel Crowe

Russell Crowe is “so jealous” of people able bodied enough to run. The 50-year-old actor has portrayed highly fit and athletic men in movies like Gladiator, Robin Hood and Noah. But in real life, injuries have rendered him far less capable in that department. “I'm so jealous of people that can run,” Russell admitted to the hosts of Australian radio show NovaFM.

'It used to be one of my favourite things to do, and that's why I ride my bike everywhere'

They’d been telling the star about a club they formed called the Gladiator Running Club, as somewhat of a tribute to him. But unfortunately for Russell, he’d never be a candidate to join.

“I'm 50-years-old now, and the joke I always say is that I've been picking up injuries since 184AD,” he quipped.

And this is attributable to years worth of accrued bodily damage. Russell went on to list the grievances he’s suffered that make it impossible for him to break into a swift gait.

“You know I've got no cartilage in my toes, I've got grade four tears in both my Achilles, shin splints, bone marrow edemas under the knees, one degenerating hip,” he said.

And it seems he is none too pleased about his predicament. The burly actor lamented that he loves running so much it even appears in his visions at night.

“You know I actually have dreams of running,” he admitted. “It used to be one of my favourite things to do, and that's why I ride my bike everywhere.”

Russell can next be seen in The Water Diviner, which also happens to be his directorial debut. He stars alongside Jai Courtney in the historical drama, set for release this month in Australia and April 2015 in the USA.
