It's going to be a scorcher! SA set for weekend heatwave

Residents of especially Gauteng, North West, parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo should know: the next few days are going to be hot. According to ENCA, sizzling temperatures will be experienced in those areas from Friday onwards, continuing right through until Monday.

In the Northern Cape, Upington and Kimberley the mercury will peak at 40 to 41°C. Read more: Be smart in the sun! Bloemfontein isn’t far behind with a temperature of 37 °C predicted.

Below is the latest regional forecast from the South African Weather Service.

1. Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the interior of the Northern Cape, western Free State and eastern Central Karoo of the Western Cape.

SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORIES:

1. Hot and humid weather will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, Limpopo Valley and the Western Bushveld of Limpopo.

2. A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in Gauteng, North-West, in places over the Mpumalanga escarpment and Limpopo from Friday, until at least Monday.

Very hot in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and hot with late afternoon isolated showers and thundershowers.

2. MPUMALANGA:

Fine and hot but very hot in places in the Lowveld and the Western Bushveld. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers in the Highveld.

3. LIMPOPO:

Fine and hot but very hot in places in the Lowveld and the Western Bushveld. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers in the south-west.

4. NORTH-WEST PROVINCE:

Very hot in the west, otherwise fine and hot becoming partly cloudy in the east with isolated late afternoon thundershowers.

5. FREE STATE:

Very hot in the north-west, otherwise fine and hot becoming partly cloudy in the east with isolated late afternoon thundershowers.

6. NORTHERN CAPE:

-----------------

Fog patches along the coast at first, where it will be cool, otherwise fine and warm but partly cloudy and hot to very hot in places over the north.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southerly.

7. WESTERN CAPE:

----------------

Cloudy and cool with rain along the south coast and adjacent interior, otherwise fine and warm but hot in places over the interior.

The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly but moderate in the south at first.

8. WESTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE:

Cloudy and cool with isolated rain and showers in places but scattered in the south-east, clearing in the northern interior towards afternoon and becoming warm in the north-east.

The wind along the coast will be light south-westerly early morning, otherwise moderate to fresh south-easterly.

9. EASTERN HALF OF THE EASTERN CAPE:

Fine and warm to hot north of escarpment, but cloudy and cool in the south with isolated showers in places but scattered in the south-west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly becoming southerly in the south and south-easterly towards evening.

10. KWAZULU-NATAL:

------------------

Morning fog over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy but cloudy in the south and warm but hot in the north-west. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected, but isolated in the south-west.

The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly but north-easterly in the north.
