JLaw: Fame is alienating

accreditation

Jennifer Lawrence stays grounded by surrounding herself with people who "don't fake laugh" at her jokes. The 24-year-old won critical acclaim with her Oscar-nominated performance in 2010's Winter's Bone, and is now one of the most recognisable women in Hollywood thanks to Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and The Hunger Games franchise. She reportedly became "emotional" at a press conference Saturday while promoting The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I when asked about how fame has changed her.

'The way people look at you feels alienated and odd'

“I have an amazing group of friends who are not in the business, who I trust,” she told reporters, according to the New York Daily News.

“Because something strange does happen, and it's a very tiny thing that makes a big difference – the way people look at you. Because I don't feel any different. The way people look at you feels alienated and odd. So I surround myself with people who don't fake laugh at my jokes.”

Jennifer's co-star Natalie Dormer at one point deflected a barrage of questions aimed at the actress, who was asked if she shared any similarities to her heroic Hunger Games character Katniss Everdeen.

Natalie, who plays fellow tribute Cressida in the dystopian drama, about a region forced to send its citizens to participate in a deadly "game" in which only one survives, responded by heaping praise on Jen.

“Katniss doesn't have any ego and neither does Jennifer," Natalie insisted.

"The reason why she's so compelling to an audience is because she's true to herself and doesn't suffer the bullsh*t or superficial elements... That's why people look up to her. She's a great role model. So is Katniss. She can't comment on that herself, because by the nature of her personality, she's incapable.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I opens in US cinemas November 21.
