The 54-year-old funnywoman was rumoured to have been offered the job earlier this month, following Joan’s passing. Now it’s said she’s been confirmed for the hit E! show. Kathy had previously told Access Hollywood she wasn’t sure if she’d take the role. “I don’t know if the situation is correct at this time for me or right for me at this time,” she had stated in reference to her offer to be a new host.
'Joan has always given her blessing to Kathy’
If Kathy is in fact taking on the role as Joan’s replacement, she’ll be teaming up with existing hosts Kelly Osbourne and Giuliana Rancic.
It is also claimed by TMZ that when the fashion savvy show does eventually return, it’ll be in a different form. Apparently it will only air during special events such as awards shows, as opposed to on a weekly basis.
Joan passed away on September 4 after she went into hospital for a routine throat procedure, which is thought to have gone wrong. The comedic star is said to have already approved of Kathy as her “successor” prior to her death.
"Joan has always given her blessing to Kathy,” a source told Us Weekly. "They talked about it many times. They have such a similar sense of humor and were the best of friends. Joan would have loved seeing Kathy on Fashion Police and she would have definitely approved."
Kathy is known for her strong wit. She won two Emmy Awards for her reality TV show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, a show that aired from 2005-2010. She’s also picked up Grammy Awards for her comedy albums.
