Kelly Rowland’s mother has died aged 66. The Destiny’s Child singer announced the tragic news that her mother Doris Rowland Garrison lost her life on Tuesday afternoon. According to reports, Doris’ death came after she went into cardiac arrest on Monday.
'She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today'
In a statement via her publicist, Kelly said: “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison. She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today.”
“We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time."
Doris’ passing comes just weeks after Kelly gave birth to son Titan, her first child with husband Tim Witherspoon.
Following the birth of Titan, Kelly’s Destiny’s Child bandmate Beyonce posted a shot of herself holding the baby’s hand on Instagram.
"There's no better feeling than holding my beautiful nephew," Beyonce captioned the shot. "I thank god for the honor of witnessing my sisters journey into motherhood. I've always dreamt of our little ones growing up together. I'm so thankful for our bond. Baby Ty, I love you so much. Congrats to my Spoons."
Kelly spoke previously about her troubled relationship with her mother. Following issues with Doris, Kelly moved in with Beyonce and the Knowles family.
“Me and my mum didn’t see eye to eye for a while,” Kelly told Britain’s Cosmopolitan magazine back in 2011.
“I would see how close my girlfriends were to their mothers and it bothered me.”
