MATERIALS Elle Kidz (50 g balls) – 3 (4; 4) balls Periwinkle 222 (for set); 4 buttons; one pair each 3,25 mm and 4 mm knitting needles. MEASUREMENTS To fit ages 0-3 (3-6; 6-12) months. Actual all-round measurement of garment: chest 46 (51; 55) cm; length to shoulder 20 (24; 29) cm; sleeve length: 15 (17; 20) cm. The instructions are given for the smallest size with the larger sizes in brackets; where only one figure is given it applies to all sizes. TENSION Save time, take time, check tension; 21 sts and 40 rows = 10 cm over garter stitch using 4 mm needles. For best results it is essential to obtain the correct tension. If there are too few sts on test swatch use thinner needles; if there are too many sts use thicker needles. STITCHES USED Garter stitch K every row. Stocking stitch 1st row: RSF, k. 2nd row: P. RIGHT FRONT FOR BOY/LEFT FRONT FOR GIRL Using 4 mm needles, cast on 26 (29; 31) sts and cont straight in gst and when work measures 16 (20; 25) cm from beg, ending with a WSR for right front and RSR for left front, shape neck: *Cast off 4 (5; 6) sts at beg (neck edge) of next row, k to end. Next row: K, casting on 2 sts over buttonhole. Girlsonly: Next row, buttonhole row: K 2, cast off 2 sts, k to end. Next row: K, casting on 2 sts over buttonhole. Both: Cont straight, working buttonholes as before to correspond with markers and when work measures 16 (20; 25) cm from beg, ending with a RSR for left front and WSR for right front, shapeneck as for right front for a boy and left front for a girl from * to end. SLEEVES BOTH ALIKE Using 4 mm needles, cast on 34 (34; 36) sts and cont in gst, inc 1 st at each end of every foll 12th (8th; 8th) row 3 (3; 2) times, then every foll 10th row 2 (4; 6) times = 44 (48; 52) sts. Cont straight until work measures 15 (17; 20) cm from beg, ending with a WSR. Cast off all sts. TO MAKE UP Sew shoulder seams. Place a marker 11 (12; 13) cm on either side of shoulder seams. Fold sleeves in half lengthways then, placing folds on shoulder seams, sew sleeves into position between markers. Sew up side and sleeve seams. Block garment to measurement, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. BEANIE Using 4 mm needles, cast on 79 (83; 91) sts and cont in st st until work measures 12 (13; 14) cm from beg, ending with a RSR.
