Kurt Darren: ‘A bit of rest and I’ll be back’

“Thanks to everyone for their tons of prayers, heaps of love and support. I leave Milpark Hospital today! A bit of rest and I’ll be back. Love!”

That was the tweet singer Kurt Darren sent this morning from his bed in Netcare Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg where he’s been treated since his car accident on 6 July.

His brother Darren van Heerden says the Loslappie singer just wants to go home.

They’re hoping the doctor will allow Kurt to be discharged today.

The past three weeks have been a painful time for Kurt. He suffered 11 broken ribs and a hairline fracture to his skull after the car he and friend Marnus Bisschoff and Marnus’ assistant, Nadia van Rensburg, had been travelling in landed in a roadside riverbed on the Kameelfontein road northeast of Pretoria. Marnus, who was driving Kurt home, swerved to avoid an oncoming truck.

Aside from the pain of the broken ribs, the hairline fracture affected Kurt’s ability to see sideways and he’s suffered double vision and headaches.

Darren says Kurt is still in pain but improving every day.

“Kurt so badly wants to go home. We hope it will happen today. He’s still in pain and will have to go home with strong medicine.”
