The actress posted a photo of her bandaged ring finger on her Snapchat account on Sunday, revealing it had almost been severed by an anchor.
She wrote: "I almost lost my finger from the anchor. Well, I lost half my finger. Thank goodness we found the piece of my finger. i just had surgery to fix it... it hurts so bad."
Lindsay also posted additional shots of her injury on Instagram, with the caption, "This is why I shouldn't try to help get the rope to anchor the boat. I lost half of my finger.…," however she has since deleted the shots.
According to TMZ.com, the star's friends took her to a local hospital, where a plastic surgeon re-attached the digit.
The Mean Girls star didn't offer up any further details but it's believed the accident happened off the coast of Turkey, where she was visiting last week.
Lindsay took to Instagram to share snaps of her stop at an Istanbul hospital, where she visited a refugee family who had fled from war-torn Aleppo, Syria.

In one shot, the actress is seen holding a young girl in her lap as she listens intently to a man speaking near her. She wrote, "Meet the Hussein Family. The father, Mohammad, was injured severely in Aleppo and his wife left him and her three kids after they migrated to Turkey. The lovely girl is (nine-year-old) Heya and her twin brother is Leys.
"The Sultanbeyli Municipality is covering their rent and kitchen expenses but the conditions of the house are very bad. The older brother was not in the house with us because although he is 17, he had to work in order to take better care of his family."
Lindsay, who also brought gifts for the family, grew especially close to Heya, and posted a sweet shot of her kissing the little one's forehead.

"I can't forget Heya whom I met during my visit to the Hussein family," she wrote. "She couldn't care less about our gifts to her, whose mother has gone. She held me more and more tight when she sat on my lap. I sniffed her hair, took her hands and held her tight. I understood at that moment once again that we can do more for each other, that we should do more for each other.
"And we can start by giving support to #Turkey, which did its part in this huge human tragedy called Syria by welcoming three million refugees. We should do more, starting today."
The 30-year-old's humanitarian trip comes weeks after her split from Russian businessman fiance Egor Tarabasov.
