Mark Haze: ‘In real life it is so different’

accreditation

“You see it in the movies, but in real life it is so different,” says 2011 Idols runner-up Mark Haze about the birth of his son, Zachary.  His wife, Shelley, gave birth to the little man yesterday, Sunday 18 August, at 9.45 am and the tot weighs a healthy 2,83 kg.

Shelley went into labour at midnight on Saturday. “We were at home the first few hours as we weren't sure it was really happening as he was two weeks early,” an ecstatic Mark told YOU. “Everything went smoothly and Shelley was really strong.”

Mark had received advice from various people about his son’s birth and how he’d experience it. “Each person’s experience is different and so was mine. Watching him arrive was amazing and funny. Now he is here and it’s like we have known each other for ages. He recognises my voice; he follows it around the room when I talk.”

Shelley is doing well. “She is a star and such a natural mother,” Mark says. “[She] and Zachary are a team. I'm still learning.”

At home in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, a decorated nursery awaits baby Zachary, with one wall wallpapered with scenery of clouds, sky and a field. “I want to thank everyone for their wishes; it means so much that so many people out there care about my family,” Mark said.

For the first exclusive photo of baby Zachary, look out for Scene and Heard in the latest issue of YOU. It will be on the shelves this Friday, 23 August!
