You don't always realise how time flies until you take a moment to pause and think back to what was happening in the world when something in your life happened. What got me thinking about this is I just realised I left 5FM and joined 94.7 Highveld Stereo 10 years ago! Chatting to 94.5Kfm programme manager Ian Bredenkamp in 2012. Photo: @MarkPilgrimZA on Twitter It feels like it was only yesterday until I start remembering the world events that took place in that same year. Back in 2003, when I made the move, Friends was still on television (season 9) and most of us still had square TV screens. It was the year the Concorde made its last commercial flight, Saddam Hussein was captured and Apple launched iTunes.
I also remember what year events took place by remembering what songs were being played on the radio at the time (and I’m good at identifying the year songs were released in).
In 2003 some of my favourite rock bands were being played (yes, there was a lot of rock music on radio back then), including Foo Fighters, Puddle of Mudd, Evanescence, The Offspring and The All-American Rejects.
It was the year I met my wife. I was in a recording booth doing a voice-over and looked through the pane of glass . . . and there she was. I knew.

In today’s world everyone is so focused on looking forward at what’s coming. Sometimes it’s nice to just take a moment, look back . . . and appreciate.
