Meet Lazarus the vampire cat!

You don’t have to be beautiful to be a star!

Lazarus the cat was born with a cleft palate, a deformity that left him without a visible nose and abnormally long lower teeth. Despite his weird appearance he has managed to win the hearts of thousands of people all over the world.

Lazarus was 10 weeks old when a student found him on the campus of East  Tennessee State University in America. He was sick and had an infection in his mouth, but vets treated him and he got better.

Today Lazarus, who is two years old, is known as the “Vampire Cat”.

A teacher who works at a school for children with special needs adopted him.

Lazarus is now a trained therapy pet and spends time among dogs, cats and even a rescued horse. His owner says they hope Lazarus will raise people’s awareness of animals that need help.

Lazarus has more than 27 000 followers on Facebook and 5 000 fans on Vine, and none of them seem to be put off by his appearance!
