Melanie Griffith: Why I won’t watch my daughter in Fifty Shades

Dakota Johnson (25) stars as Anastasia Steele in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular erotic novel, and will be involved in some steamy scenes. But her mother (57) is not going to be rushing to the cinema to see it.

“It would just be too awkward,” she told Mario Lopez as he hosted ExtraTV this month.

Apparently it’s not only her decision. Dakota, who plays a woman entirely seduced by Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey, wants her mum to avoid the movie too.

‘I think Dakota would be mortified if we came to see her movie’

“I think [Dakota] would be mortified if we came to see her movie,” Melanie went on. “She said, ‘You can see up ‘til I lose my virginity and that's it.’”

The Working Girl actress also revealed the roots to Dakota’s acting career. She explained her daughter decided on her own volition that she was going to become a big star.

“She hated school,” Melanie reminisced. “Around 11th grade, she was like, ‘I'm going to be an actress. I'm going to be really big. I'm going to be bigger than you,’ and she is… there is no lack of confidence with Dakota.”

In the same interview, Melanie spoke out about her recent split from husband Antonio Banderas. The couple had been married since 1996 before announcing their separation in June of this year, and now the star is “laying low” in her newly single status.

However, she does foresee a return to the dating scene, and would like to meet somebody outside of the Hollywood scene.

“I think I'd like to meet a cowboy, like a real man,” Melanie confessed. “Somebody who's a man and who's not concerned with this town.”
