Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa died in her girlfriend Kelly Khumalo's arms, The Star reported on Thursday.

"I saw him die in my arms. His lips turned blue, and he took a deep breath. It was not easy watching the man you love die," Khumalo was quoted as saying.

The singer poured her heart out to her biographer Melinda Ferguson about the shooting, according to the report.

Meyiwa, 27, was shot dead in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, on Sunday night while visiting Khumalo.

"I have never seen a person so distressed like her. Every piece of her was broken," Ferguson told the newspaper.

She had visited Khumalo at her Mulbarton townhouse to comfort her.

Ferguson told the publication that Khumalo and Meyiwa spent the day together and later went to Vosloorus.

"According to her [Khumalo], Senzo wanted them to spend the night there [at her mother's house]. They were with Senzo's friends at the time. She said Senzo wanted to be at her home, where she had grown up. But Kelly insisted that they live," Ferguson told the newspaper.

Police have offered a reward of R250,000 for any information leading to the killers' arrest.

Meyiwa will be buried on Saturday in Durban.
