Mindy Kaling is “honoured” to have been mistaken for Malala Yousafzai. The Mindy Project star made headlines this week when she was apparently mistaken for the 17-year-old Pakistani activist and recent Nobel Peace Prize recipient at The New Yorker Festival.
'Congratulations on your Nobel Prize'
The Indian TV star (35) was approached by “a tipsy man in his 80s” who “showered her with compliments, apparently mistaking her for Malala Yousafzai”, the New York Times reports.
“‘Congratulations on your Nobel Prize,’” he apparently told her.
Mindy reportedly took the case of mistaken identity in stride, laughing that it was “the best thing” to happen all night.
And the actress was still getting laughs as she took to her Twitter account at the weekend, musing she was flattered someone thought she still looked like a teenager despite being in her mid-30s.
“Honored to have been mistaken for @MalalaFund! (yes, a little bit because she is 17),” she wrote, linking to the Times piece.

She’s been celebrated by citizens around the world, with many celebrities also taking notice of her cause and story of bravery..
Reese Witherspoon, speaking at Variety’s Power of Women event earlier this month, took the moment to acknowledge the trailblazing teenager's influence.
"I'm so proud to tell you today that Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize. She is my role model,” the actress said.
