Modern Family casts first openly transgender child actor

The youngster landed a role in international TV sensation Modern Family, as Tom, a friend of Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell's (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) daughter Lily (the adorable Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) -- all pictured below.

"Cam and Mitchell’s daughter Lily invites over her transgender friend Tom for a playdate," reports NewNowNext.

"Cam and Mitchell are so proud of themselves for raising a loving and accepting child, but of course in classic Modern Family fashion there is a misunderstanding and the couple mistakenly thinks that Lily may not be as open-minded as they thought."

Episode director Ryan Case shared a photo of Jackson on set on Instagram. "He plays Lily's friend Tom in this week's Modern Family and he's wonderful." Ryan gushed. "One of the many reasons I love being a part of this show."
