Mom gives birth to twins 87 days apart

accreditation

An Irish mother has given birth to potentially record-breaking twins 87 days apart.

The woman ? Maria Jones-Elliot of Waterford, Ireland ? has described the pair as "little miracles" after she gave birth to daughter Amy four months prematurely on 1 June last year and sister Katie who then arrived around three months later on 27 August.

Maria ? who also has a 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son ? told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Usually you experience nothing but joy at the birth of a new baby, but it was so achingly bittersweet as both of their lives hung in the balance.

"As I held Amy for the first time, I stroked my bump and prayed to God. I just wanted my girls to be together and safe and well. I'm so honoured to have had these two girls that are so special. For all of us to be here, could I be any luckier?"
