This is what Annamarie Kruger told YOU after her son Christiaan (28) was cleared of all charges of murder in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court.
He was only in court for minutes before walking out as a free man after being charged with the murders on 3 June. The murders of Anthony Scholefield, Kevin McAlpine en Hanle Lategan – all from Krugersdorp – happened in May this year. There was also one charge of kidnapping and three charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He was in custody for almost four months.
“I am so excited, I can’t wait to see my son,” said Annamarie in a WhatsApp message to us. She is planning something “special” to welcome him back to their home in the poor neighbourhood of Burgershoop in Krugersdorp.
Christiaan’s former co-accused Fabian Luft (32) was already freed on 25 August.
“It was difficult in jail for him without Fabian, the two supported each other,” says Annemarie. “Some nights I cried over Christiaan and I knew from the start that he had nothing to do with the murders.”
She made him a sign that reads “Welcome home son” she says. And also sent us a picture of herself in a lovely light blue suit: “Look at me, I made myself look beautiful for my child!”
Two appointment murder suspects are still in custody Leroux Steyn (21) and his sister Marcel (18).
