Images of a blood-smeared bath- room and a macabre trail of blood have once again driven home the tragedy of the shooting that shocked the world. But intimate new pictures tell another tale – one that’s easy to forget amid the horror and hype surround- ing model Reeva Steenkamp’s death.
Until that fateful night Reeva and Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius were a glamorous, seemingly carefree young couple who delighted in each other’s company. Much has been said, written and speculated about Oscar’s dark side, fidelity and quick temper but in these photos he simply looks smitten with the lovely woman at his side.
They were taken in the last summer of Reeva’s life, when her relationship with Oscar was just beginning. One picture (above), snapped at the Arabella resort near Hermanus in the Western Cape, is perhaps the most poignant of all. Reeva snuggles into the athlete’s neck, seemingly unaware of the camera.
