Oprah hits the big screen again

Queen of chat and media mogul Oprah Winfrey might not be seen on TV much these days but she’ll soon be proving her mettle again as actress on the big screen.

She’s landed the role of Richard Pryor’s notorious grandmother, Marie Carter, in a biopic on the life of the legendary comedian and actor. Lee Daniels, Oscar-nominated director of The Butler fame (Oprah also appeared in that film), is directing the film.

Pryor’s gran Marie Carter was apparently a heartless brothel owner who severely abused her grandson when he was growing up in Peoria, Illinois.

Mike Epps, known to readers as “Black Doug” of the comic Hangover trilogy, is in the title role.
