Orlando Bloom wants to be known as "down and dirty" not "clean and upright". The British actor is renowned for his role as long-haired elf Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and its prequel franchise The Hobbit, but his journey is now over with the release of the final feature, The Battle of the Five Armies, later this month. Although he's sad about leaving the iconic character behind, Orlando is excited about what the future holds.
'I feel like I need to get down and dirty and a bit aggressive and show this whole other side of me'
"I look back and think I've had this amazing opportunity, Legolas is fantastic to dress up in, of course he is, and I've had the best time playing him. But I'm looking forward to this next chapter and doing sort of different things; tats, rougher," he explained to BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw.
"I feel like I need to get down and dirty and a bit aggressive and show this whole other side of me that... Everybody thinks I'm very clean and sort of upright, don't they? Cos I look at myself and go, 'Look, it looks like I've got something stuck up my...' As Legolas. Is it just the elves? I just want to let it all hang out."
One thing he is looking forward to is his son Flynn, who he has with his estranged wife Miranda Kerr, being able to watch all the instalments in order and see his dad as he "pouts a bit and flicks his hair and takes care of business".
Orlando will miss mingling with his Hobbit co-stars in the lunch hall too and joining the likes of Billy Connolly cracking jokes in his costume for dwarf Dain.
The Pirates of the Caribbean features also made Orlando a household name and he got to work opposite some big stars. He didn't immediately feel confident as Will Turner during the shoot though.
"I always remember seeing Geoffrey Rush on that set and Johnny Depp and it was like, they just had freedom tattooed across their forehead in my mind, you know?" he recalled. "They could just do anything. And I would like, be in with my socks pulled up and come on set and get the girl and be prissy and stuff."
