Eddie Kalili, our very own assistant editor, took on a cooking challenge last night – not only in the kitchen but also on television.
Yes, last night viewers of Come Dine With Me SA got a closer look at how our Eddie cooks up a storm in the kitchen. And of course Eddie took home first place. We are so proud of her.
How was the Come Dine With Me experience?
One word… Surreal! It was so much fun though but also very tiring because it’s a heavily produced show meaning there’s a lot of retakes. The food is brought out at least twice to shoot close ups and the wide shots. And also you need to have two minutes of silent eating so they can get the background noise and some retakes.
The evenings were exhausting – I got home well after 1AM on all the nights. But it was such a fun experience and wow, what a mix of girls!
Do you still have contact with the other contestants?
No. I exchanged numbers with Laura, and there was an SMS sent but it was about remembering the confidentiality contract we signed… But beyond that, I don’t think we’ll keep in touch. But I’m sure I’ll bump into Aspasia at functions etc. because we’re in the same industry.
What was your favourite meal out of all the meals you tasted?
Hands down, Laura’s orange cake. It was divine and I went for seconds.
Where did you learn to cook?
Experimenting and trying things out, and when I was confident enough about the recipes, I would change it up a bit to suit my tastes.
Can your husband cook?
Yes, he’s actually good. He’s mean with meat!
What don’t you eat?
I think it’s pretty obvious after seeing me on TV, that there’s very little I say no to! LOLs! [However, I still believe the camera adds 20 kilos! I wish!]
Have you ever been on TV before?
Yes, when I was “studying” drama I did some TV inserts.
