Pieter van Zyl, senior journalist at Huisgenoot, is one of the three winners of this year’s Pfizer Mental Health Journalism awards, announced last week by the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) and Pfizer. The awards are aimed at raising awareness of mental health problems and eradicating the stigma attached to these issues.
Journalists were invited to submit examples of their work as well as a suggested project for the coming year. Van Zyl’s project will consists of a series of articles on various mental disorders and focus on the loved ones of people suffering from psychiatric diseases. He’ll also investigate the influence of technology on mental health.
