The 45-year-old actress has been at the centre of media attention thanks to her dramatic change in appearance recently after attending a fashion event in Los Angeles earlier this month. She spoke out at the time, insisting her transformation was simply down to feeling more "happy and fulfilled" with life.
'After the talk about her looks she's also worried Doyle could be put off'
Despite putting on a front when faced with questions, the same reportedly can't be said for behind the scene. She reportedly fears her boyfriend Doyle Bramhall II will pick up on the negative comments surrounding her looks.
"Renée thinks it's unfair her face has become a target, given the other film stars who have had cosmetic work but aren't picked on. She's crushed by the backlash and her confidence has taken a knock. She's had self-esteem issues for years, which she's had to re-live all over again," a source told British magazine Closer.
"After the talk about her looks she's also worried Doyle could be put off. She's cried to him that she feels people are laughing at her."
Renée took the time to address speculation when confronted on the red carpet at ELLE's 21st annual Women In Hollywood Awards. Having lost and put on weight for film roles over the years it seems the actress has now put her wellbeing first, which is what she thinks has altered her.
"My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy. For a long time I wasn't doing such a good job with that," she told People magazine. "I took on a schedule that is not realistically sustainable and didn't allow for taking care of myself. Rather than stopping to recalibrate, I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion."
